What the Pit Village Left Under the Yards

A 1903 pit village, still on early pipe

Some of the colliery cottages left standing have never had their galvanised water service replaced. Rust builds up inside that steel until the shower barely runs, and brownish water at the first turn of a tap gives it away.

Clay does the rest

The first sewers here were ceramic, laid on reactive clay that swells and shrinks with the seasons. Every movement works the joints a little looser, and every loose joint is a place for waste to snag and roots to enter.

Why it changes the job

Tight subfloors, seized fittings and pipe that crumbles when you look at it make old-block work slower. That is exactly why the figure gets settled before the toolbox opens.

What the Price Looks Like Before We Start

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). The figure moves with:

  • how easily the faulty section can be reached, because tight subfloors and old laundries add labour
  • the material we're joining onto, since galvanised and ceramic take longer than copper or PVC
  • parts to suit your system's brand and age, with some older units needing components ordered in
  • the time of day, since night and weekend visits cost more

When we're not the right call. A safety switch that trips whenever the heater runs, or a dead power circuit, needs an electrician, not a plumber.

A fixed figure matters most on the big jobs, because the number you approve is the number that appears on the final invoice.

From First Ring to Final Check

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 3475 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    The work, done properly

We fix the fault the way the quote describes, run water or gas through it to test, and sweep up before leaving.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

Two Seasons That Find the Weak Points

Cold mornings end tired tanks

Records average 5.5 frosts a year here. That is enough to finish a storage heater that has rusted from the inside for decades in a laundry or back shed, and the showers go cold that morning.

Storms test the flat ground

Long-term records put rainfall at 804 millimetres a year, landing on low-lying clay that sheds water slowly. A summer downpour fills the yard gullies before the old lines can empty them, and water pooling over a cracked pipe finds the weak joint every time.

Questions Before You Book

Do you charge a call-out fee?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). Night and weekend visits are dearer, and you hear that surcharge on the phone before a plumber drives out, so you can decide whether it waits until morning.

Which suburbs do you service?

Abermain itself, plus Sawyers Gully, Weston, Pelaw Main, Richmond Vale, Cessnock and Neath, all on the same run. A job in any of them books the same way: ring (02) 4063 3475 and describe the fault.

How do you clear a blocked drain?

We clear with a jetter or an electric eel, whichever suits the pipe, then run the drain camera over the line before and after. You see the result instead of taking our word for it. If roots are the cause, we cut them and talk through relining.

Do you do gas fitting as well as plumbing?

Yes. The team holds gas fitting licences, so a new cooktop, oven, barbecue or pool heater can be connected, and a leaking gas pipe found and repaired. In older cottages converted to gas, the fitter also checks behind the stove for worn joints and bare wall penetrations.

Is your work covered by a warranty?

Every job carries a 365-day warranty on all work. Should a repair of ours give trouble within twelve months, call (02) 4063 3475 again and a plumber comes back to fix it, whether it was a washer or a relined drain.

What should I do about a burst pipe before you arrive?

Shut off the water at the meter or the isolation tap, then open a low tap to drain the remaining pressure. Stay clear of water near power points. Rust-thinned galvanised elbows can let go without warning under older houses, so the sooner the water is off, the smaller the clean-up.

Ring When It Can't Wait

Call (02) 4063 3475 or send the form below. Available 24/7, you see a fixed figure ahead of any work, and every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work.
