Plumber Cessnock

Plumber Cessnock work begins under the older grid, where pre-war homes still run galvanised water pipe that loses pressure as it rusts. The town neighbours Abermain, and Abermain Plumbing Co covers it on the same run, pricing pipe, drain, hot water and gas work before starting.

What the Coal Years Left Buried

A boom-era town

Between 1903 and 1923 the town boomed as the main centre of the South Maitland coal district. Federation houses and weatherboard miners' cottages cluster near the middle, ringed by broad tracts of 1950s to 1970s brick veneer and fibro. Census figures count 5,643 dwellings, of which 84.1 per cent are separate houses.

Galvanised on the supply side

In the older streets, houses built before the war reach a point where the rusted galvanised supply has to be swapped for copper, because the flow has dropped too far.

Earthenware in moving ground

Clay sewer laid in the interwar boom still runs under whole neighbourhoods, and the big street trees put in during the town's early years now push roots into its joints, worst after a dry spell.

Storms and frost

Summer storms building over the Brokenback Range dump heavy rain into the town's low basin, and the ageing drains of the low-lying streets cannot keep up. Frost averages 8.2 days a year, and cold mornings finish off worn cylinders in the post-war suburbs.

Old gas in old buildings

Long-standing gas services in the older shops and nearby homes can carry legacy fittings that no longer pass a present-day pressure test, which matters before any new appliance is added.

Cessnock Plumbing Questions

Can I get a plumber here on a Sunday night?

Yes. We are Available 24/7, public holidays included, and the after-hours rate is quoted before a plumber heads out. Describe the fault when you ring, whether it is a burst service pipe, a dead cylinder or sewage coming up at a gully.

Why do drains in the older part of town keep blocking?

The first sewers under the older streets were earthenware, and years of movement in the clay soil have opened their joints to roots. A camera pass after the clear shows whether that joint needs relining or cutting back, so it stops blocking.
